Holly Brandon embarked on her career at the age of 7, after seeing her first Show of Hands concert. She has been playing the fiddle ever since. She started out playing and writing tunes with her brother, multi-instrumentalist George Brandon. They now form the folk duo, Painted Sky and together have played live shows around the UK, with festival highlights including performances at Towersey, Edlefest and Thame Town Music Festival. Painted Sky released their debut EP – Dawn– in August 2020; a showcase of their live act and progressive blend of traditional and original material.
In 2018, Holly joined forces with transatlantic folk group The Magpies. The Magpies have been performing to rapt audiences at sold out shows and festivals around the UK, including Glastonbury, Cambridge, Larmer Tree and Shambala and have been described as ‘making waves wherever they play’ (Phil Beer, Show of Hands). 2019 saw the group’s first international performances, with a tour in Ireland, performances at Costa Del Folk in Portugal and showcases at Folk Alliance International in Montreal. The Magpies released their debut album, Tidings, in June 2020 to critical acclaim: ‘effervescent’ (The Sunday Times), ‘very accomplished’ (The Daily Express) ‘folk with finesse’ (The Daily Mail).
Holly has also worked with Polly Bolton, the Joshua Burnell Band and Mikkelsson and is always on the lookout for the next project.
